Gardening – Where To Start
It goes without saying that gardening has changed over the last century. Now, a hobby versus a way to make food for survival. This has also changed our growing techniques. But what kind of garden is going to suit your lifestyle and home?
A traditional garden is one that is in a large plot of dirt. The designated area is only marked by the turning of the soil. It is an inexpensive way to get started with gardening. It is using the area and soil that you are given with the property you live on. It requires some effort and time to actually get the soil ready but for the most part is actually a time saver as you do not need to construct anything. This type of garden is better when there is a more substantial area. Sometimes you might be limited in the area that you can build this type of garden because of lack of sunlight or water access. A traditional garden can also be harder on you as you grow older. It requires more lifting from a lower height and be difficult on your knees as you bend to take care of or harvest your plants.

A new and popular style of garden is the raised garden. This can come in many shapes, materials or forms. This is a great alternative for a smaller space. You can adjust the dimensions or even build higher as you use all the square footage that you have. Having a raised garden is ideal for someone who might even have space but does not have a great soil profile. The raised garden allows you to pick whatever gardening soil you want. Physically, it can be gentler on your body as it requires less bending or strain on your knees! You can even garden from a seat! You will however encounter a larger dent in your bank account to purchase materials (wood, metal, etc) to build your raised garden and fill it with the soil that will be required.

Both gardens styles have pros and cons but it will take determining which best suits your budget, lifestyle and gardening space to figure out what you need. There is no wrong choice to make when it comes to the style you choose. Whether you are growing vegetables, fruits or beautiful flowers, whatever style you pick to suit your needs, will be the correct choice!
